Evpatoria...

Harlow is twined with the Jewish Community in Evpatoria, in the former USSR.

Rabbi Irit handing over a gift from the Harlow Jewish Community. The whole community participated in designing and making this curtain - the children designed the pictures and the adults helped to make the silk panels and put them together to make this beautiful curtain. The collaboration between Harlow and Yevpatoria is a long standing one. A few years a go Rabbi Irit's predecessor, Rabbi Michael Pertz, visited the community and brought back wonderful memories and photographs. Some of our members also visited, and there are strong contacts with the community via Anne Neuhaus and Vivienne Wright.

Exodus 2000

An integral part of the Union for Progressive Judaism, Exodus merits its place here as a friend to many established and emerging communities in the Former Soviet Union. Under its guidance several of the synagogues support 15 communities in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. The rabbis and congregants make visits – to Grodno, Bobruisk, Vitebsk, Kiev, Gomel and Krasnodar. The scribes repair scrolls. The Exodus administrator co-ordinates and keeps contact with Leo Baeck FSU rabbinical students.
