As part of our continuing relationship with the Jewish community in Yevpatoria, our community designed and made a Parochet, a curtain for the new Ark erected in the synagogue in Yevpatoria. The children designed the curtain in the form of 12 squares, which were to be sewn together to form a curtain 1.50m x 2.50m. Each square included a Jewish artefact or drawing on a Jewish theme. Once the drawings were completed a group of women got together to enlarge the drawings, copy them on to silk squares and paint them. The squares were put together and later sewn together with a background and
backing.
The Harlow Jewish Community decided to send Rabbi Irit to Yevpatoria to present the curtain as our gift for the New Year.
