Somehow the High Holidays are nearly upon us. Harlow Jewish Community is looking forward to being able to hold these services once again in the synagogue with a congregation. Life is still uncertain, so do please continue to check the emails and next month’s newsletter for full details of times. We will continue to offer Zoom as an alternative for those who are not able to be there in person.
Due to the ongoing uncertainties because of the Coronavirus, we are not going to send out letters offering readings and other mitzvot this year. We do still, however, want as many people as possible to contribute to our services and we will allocate the mitzvot on the day once we know who is there. Please check our August and September newsletters or the calendar in the "What's On" section of the website for the timings of our High Holidays services in September as these may be subject to change.
We are pleased to announce that our 2021 Kol Nidre Appeal includes two great charities, Razed Roof and Yad Sarah. This is in addition to our Synagogue's maintenance fund which was significantly depleted in the last 12 months due to repairs costs associated with the water damage to our synagogue’s building.
Razed Roof is an inclusive performing arts group for people with, and without, learning difficulties and disabilities who believe that the performing arts provide an opportunity to improve the quality of life for everyone involved. Razed Roof is based at Harlow Playhouse and consists of up to 40 participants. Harlow Jewish Community is proud and happy to support this locally based charity for the third year in a row.
Yad Sarah is the largest volunteer-staffed organisation in Israel, provides a vital array of compassionate health and home care services for people of all ages. Today, 41 years after it was founded, Yad Sarah now has 100+ branches throughout Israel staffed by more than 6,000 volunteers. Although the organisation is best known for its extensive Lending Service for medical equipment, its 6,000+ volunteers also drive wheelchair accessible vans, reach out to the homebound, advocate for the elderly at risk for abuse, provide in-home geriatric dental care and staff the Play Centre for children with special needs. More than 420,000 received help from Yad Sarah in recent years. Harlow Jewish Community is proud and happy to support this charity for the second year in a row.
