Funerals

When people die there are rituals helping their loved ones to say goodbye and take their leave. The funeral, followed by burial or cremation, can use the traditional prayers or add new readings, as requested by the mourners. The mourners are invited to remember the deceased, making the funeral also a celebration of the life of the deceased.

The funeral may be followed by shiv’a services, at the request of the mourners, and about a year later may come the stone-setting. The deceased is remembered yearly by the community with the reading of the Kaddish.
