Services

Our services are inclusive and participatory and we encourage as many people as possible to take part, including our younger members. Children are welcome, even the very young, who are getting their first taste of synagogue life. Smiles follow the toddlers, who wander around the synagogue, often underfoot.

Harlow & Chelmsford Jewish Community is a constituent of the Movement for Progressive Judaism and we use the Forms of Prayer siddur (prayer book)

Shabbat and Festivals

We hold fortnightly Friday night services and Saturday morning services. We also celebrate all the major festivals. This includes the High Holy Days - Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

On Yom Kippur we have a full complement of services ending with Havdalah. Services are also held for Sukkot and Simchat Torah, Pesach and Shavuot as well as a seder on the first night of Pesach in Chelmsford, and on the second night of Pesach in Harlow. A women’s seder is offered in the middle of Pesach.

We have services and a party on Purim and Chanukah. Services are also held for Tu biShvat, Yom HaAtsma’ut and Yom Yerushalayim, and Yom HaShoah is commemorated with a special service, as is Holocaust Memorial Day.
