Adult Education

Monthly adult education sessions take place on a variety of topics, mostly originating from questions put forward by the participants. All sessions encourage participants to put forward their own views, ask questions and offer answers.

Jewish tradition is based on Biblical rules and later interpretations of these rules. The principles formulated by the Rabbis of old were then put into practice. Over the centuries Jewish scholars and rabbis debated how best to accomplish this, and the records of their deliberations can be found in the Babylonian and Jerusalem Talmud as well as later literature.

In Progressive Judaism modern interpretation of both oral and written traditions is equally important. We apply historical, linguistic and cultural analysis to the texts we study. This helps us to draw meanings from Jewish literature and also make our tradition relevant to the modern world. We offer a number of learning initiatives that members and guests are welcome to attend according to their interests and needs.

On occasion, we offer special events incorporating art and music in the Jewish world or related to Jewish themes.

We occasionally offer modern Hebrew classes. Conversion classes are on offer as needed.
