Global Day of Jewish Learning

Friday 2nd December 2022

Family relationship breakdown was the theme of a fascinating study session at the synagogue last month, based on the story of Abraham and the sacrifice of Isaac.

Participants explored how Isaac might feel about his father’s willingness to sacrifice him, how his mother Sarah would have coped with the news and how it led to what appeared to be an irreparable breakdown between father and son and between his parents.

Chairman Lorraine said:

“Rabbi Irit provided some fascinating source materials and we had an excellent discussion on how the participants related to each other and the implications for their family.

“We also enjoyed plenty of snacks and nibbles.”

The study session was part of the annual Global Day of Jewish Learning to honour the legacy of founder Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz.
