Olives and Figs

Wednesday 8th February 2023

Olives and figs, carobs, dates and pomegranates were on the menu at a Tu BiShvat Seder in the synagogue on Sunday.

The festival marks the new year for trees and, led by Rabbi Irit, everyone concentrated on trees and their fruit, especially species that grow in Israel.

They also enjoyed apples, oranges and tomatoes and drank four glasses of wine (or grape juice) - white, pale rosé, deep rosé and red - symbolising the seasons, from the cold white of winter to the beginning of spring, full spring and the heat of summer.

Paula Alonso, said: “It was such a fun afternoon, we learned lots and tasted a lot of different fruits.”
