HJC is pleased to announce that our Cheder resumed in September 2021 in a more traditional format after disruption during the lockdowns.
The sessions run on term-time Saturday mornings with a varying start time depending on whether there is a service taking place. Please refer to our website calendar for the exact timing.
There are 2 Cheder teachers and one helper. So far we have completed four sessions and the initial response from children and their parents is positive. We have 12 children in regular attendance ranging from 2 to 10 years in age.
The curriculum is based on the Hebrew calendar and each week is focussed thematically around the relevant Torah reading. There is also a formalised Hebrew lesson for the six to ten years old, whereas the younger children are exposed to themed key Hebrew vocabulary when they complete their activities.
